Like a lot of people I suspect, I have a lot of clothes that I keep because I once liked them or they are too good to throw out. Well I decided that I was going to re-vamp my wardrobe, changing the clothes I liked to something that I would wear now. I started with this knitted cardigan I bought in Ireland in Next about 12 years ago.
I never really liked the hood, so I cut that down to a collar, changed the buttons, and added a flap to the pockets now I have a new look that I will wear.
These are pictures of boats built by Thor Heyerdahl famous for the Kon Tiki. The boats are in an exibition in Guimar, where Thor was looking into the age of the pyramids there.
On the 30th May each year the Canary islands celebrate Canaries day, “Dia de Canarias”.
The school children dress up in traditional costume, to celebrate the unique Canarian culture.
These youngsters were parading through Adeje , a typical Canarian small town. It was good to see the younger generation getting involved in the culture of their ancestors.
This recipe was inspired by holly’s toasted granola http://hollyandflora.com/2014/07/02/toasty-whole-grain-granola-with-dried-cherries-dark-chocolate/
I have a wheat intolerance and a nut allergy so decided to adapt the recipe to suit me, this is my version.
1 cup of oats
1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1 tablespoon quinoa
2 tablespoons of treacle (cane sugar)
sea salt and cracked black pepper
1 teaspoon of mixed spice
1/4 cup of coconut oil
a packet of mixed dried fruit, cranberries, blueberries and cherries
1. mix all ingredients except dried fruit
2. spread onto baking tray lined with greaseproof paper
3. bake for about 25 mins at 150 c
4. when cool add dried fruit
5. put into airtight containers
This recipe worked really well for me, I like the taste the mixed spice gives it and treacle is easier to work with than honey.
I have had some on it’s own and with yogurt both delicious.
The good thing is I can carry some in a small tub as a snack, to fight the hunger pangs.
Next venture to try a take on apple crumble using it as the topping.
Now that I have the basic recipe there is no end to the variations I could make. Different fruit , different spices.
Yesterday I caught a glimpse of two big birds flying past the patio window, by the time I got my camera they were flying away from me and I only managed to capture one, I think they were osprey’s. If anyone knows different let me know.
You get an idea of the size compared to the hill and the buildings.
I cropped these but they are not very clear.
As I do not eat wheat I am always looking for other ways of cooking my favourite food. I had never tried using courgettes instead of pasta it works very well, I sliced it thinly with a mandolin , you don’t need to cook it first just place in alternate layers with the meat and cheese sauce,, and there you have it, delicious !
A few months ago a friend of mine gave me some material, I kept looking at it wondering what I could make, I do not have any patterns, I left them all in Uk, so thought I would look at what clothes I have and like to wear, and make a pattern out of them.
This is what I came up with a top I bought which cost 30 euros, I really love the fit, I made a paper pattern and here are the results.
The pink one is the original.
