We visited the butterfly garden in Icod about an hour and half from where we stay. These are some of the photos I took.
This was my view this morning while I was having breakfast. Although I have been here for ten years now I still like how the view changes with the light.
This is my best so far. As anyone who is wheat -free will know it is really hard to get anything that tastes like bread, but this soda bread can be toasted, you can use it with any topping also good for dipping in you soup.
makes 1 small loaf or 4 rolls
50g maize flour
50g shop bought gluten – free flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp bicarb
about 250 ml plain yogurt
2. mix egg and yogurt.
3. add egg mix to dry ingredients.
4. do not overmix, just use a table knife to draw the mixture together, divide into 4 if making rolls.
5. put into a greased bun tin. Brush with some of the yogurt mixed with water.
6. Bake at 190 c for 25 to 30 mins.
This is one of the 8 k walks I did on Saturday, spectacular scenery. This walk was done with a guide “Andy Tenerife Walker” a local professional guide, we did this in partnership with the Tenerife charity “En Pie” a charity that promotes mental awareness issues. On this walk you had the opportunity to talk with Spanish people and try and learn the language. Great day had by all. We ended with a picnic where everyone took what was typical of there country, and we all shared and learned loads. Chinyero was a volcano that last erupted in 1909.
Since retiring I have been doing a lot of walking, and because it is very warm here , I always have to carry water. Mostly I carry the bottle of water in my rucksack, but only if I am doing other shopping, so decided I needed a way to attach the bottle to my bum bag or a belt.
This is what I came up with, very easy, 2 pieces of elastic, one longer piece of strap or belt material. Took about 15 minutes to put together and think it will work a treat.
This is an amazing cake. It is wheat free. I have been having a slice for my breakfast, it is really quite filling and very tasty.
1 egg beaten
1/2 cup apple sauce or any fruit sauce
1 1/2 cups of milk
1tsp vanilla extract
2tbsp olive oil or coconut oil
1 apple chopped
2 cups rolled oats
1tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
This cake can be frozen in portions, I wrap them in tin foil. I usually heat mine in micro for about 30 to 40 seconds, and you can add milk or yogurt if you like.
You can use any fruit you like, but I like apples it tastes a bit like apple crumble to me.
About 3 months ago I had a mole type lump on my head, turned out it was non cancerous and was treated by freezing, but it made me think about all the products you put on your hair, like shampoo, conditioner, gel, hair dye.
So I decided to try not using any of these products.
To wash my hair I use 1tsp bicarb to 1 cup water.
To condition I use 1tbsp vinegar to 1 cup water.
To replace my gel I use aloe vera gel.
I use 1tbsp dried sage soaked in boiling water for to dye my hair, I am naturally brown. Put this on most days and just let it dry naturally.
well 3 months later I am pleased with results, I have very fine hair and to start with it was very soft now using the aloe vera has helped to give it some body.
I use the sage to try to help with the grey, sometimes I think it is working, hard to telI as I don’t have much grey.
